Do you remember your first break-up? I certainly do. It was heart-wrenching. At 15 I thought my life was over, and I would never find anyone better. The fact that we had only been dating for two months escaped me. The small problems are the big problems when you’re 15. Taylor Swift said it well in her hit song about the age.
The sadness I felt upon this breakup was definitely warranted, but as I was yet to be diagnosed with depression, it was a sadness that lingered a little longer than it should have. To be honest, I barely knew the guy. Two months and a few movie dates certainly felt like a big deal back then.
I don’t mention the depression for sympathy, it’s just a fact of life, my life, and as I’ve had a hankering to be a little more personal on here, the posts have reflected that urge. I’ve noticed a difference in the past few weeks in the comments section, as readers have been sharing their personal stories too, and that connection is a pretty fantastic, meaningful thing.
But back to the story. A friend of mine, who was one of my best friends now and still is, immediately walked to my house with three bars of dark chocolate. I hadn’t invited her over or anything, but somehow she just knew exactly what I needed. She is emotionally intuitive like that.
That moment confirmed to me that friends + chocolate (the combination is very important) can do an excellent job with placing emotional band-aids on aching wounds. This recipe title can be whatever you’d like: breakup chocolate whipped cream, failed a test chocolate whipped cream–you name it. There’s nothing like a spoonful of chocolate whipped cream on top of a mug of hot cocoa to help a smile peek out from a frown. It’s also delicious on ice cream, coffee, pancakes… I could go on, but you get the picture. Enjoy
- 1 cup whipping cream/heavy cream
- ¼ cup cocoa powder
- ½ cup sugar
- Chill a stainless steel bowl in the fridge for at least 15 minutes before starting to whip the cream.
- In the chilled bowl, add the whipping cream and begin mixing on low until the cream becomes frothy and slightly thicker. Add the cocoa and sugar and continue mixing on medium until light and fluffy (about 5 minutes).
*For best results, chill the bowl in the fridge before mixing
*If you over-whip the cream, you can mix in a little more whipping cream for a few seconds and it will become smoother
